David Band's Circulars

It's Ependymoma—February 25, 2002

We just returned from my neurosurgeon. The pathologist at the hospital sent a sample to a pathologist at Hopkins. There is not yet a written report (the neurosurgeon will fax it to us when he receives it in the next ~2 days), but the Hopkins pathologist said it is ependymoma. We will start with 2 specialists in town here-recommended by both our doctor and my friend Shai who is a specialist in related areas and was an NIH fellow until this past summer. The likely treatment is radiation. This is all pretty much what we expected.

Of lesser but more immediate significance, the incision has not healed sufficiently to have the sutures removed. The neurosurgeon does not want me to go to work until that point. Mercifully I have my laptop so I can get some work done.
